The NBA has always been an international game and a family affair. But the numbers in both categories seem to grow yearly, with a record 140 international players from 40 countries on NBA rosters at the beginning of the 2022-23 season. There are also 13 sets of brothers – which is also the most in a season – with rookies Isaiah Mobley and Julian Champaign coming into the Association this season.
Some players with brothers playing in the NBA are well-known, like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jrue Holiday, and Stephen Curry. Antetokounmpo and Curry are two of the best players in the league and can help fans invest money in NBA picks today. Which brother combinations are the best in the league?
- Stephen (Warriors) and Seth Curry (Nets)
Stephen Curry is arguably the best shooter in the history of the NBA and a four-time World Champion. The 2022 Finals MVP is a two-time scoring champion and holds several league and franchise records. He extended his NBA record of consecutive games with a 3-pointer to 200 against the Cavaliers on November 11, 2022. Curry has reached the 30-point mark nine times and topped 40 twice through the season’s first four weeks.
Seth Curry is not the shooter that his brother is, but he is pretty good. A solid role player, Curry averages 11 points a game for his career. His career 3-point percentage of 43.9% is the best among active players and the third highest in league history.
- Giannis (Bucks), Kostas (Bulls) and Thanasis Antetokounmpo (Bucks)
Giannis Antetokounmpo is the best two-way player in the game today, as he can do everything besides shoot 3-pointers. The Greek Freek will be 28 in December and became an NBA Finals MVP and champion in 2021. He is also a two-time regular season MVP and won DPOY in 2020. Antetokounmpo is on pace to post his sixth straight season of at least 26 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo is a deep reserve on the Bucks’ bench, and Kostas Antetokounmpo is currently on a two-way contract with Chicago.
- Jrue (Bucks), Justin (Hawks), and Aaron Holiday (Hawks)
Jrue Holiday is a 14-year veteran who is still a top-10 point guard in the league. He is at his best when attacking the rim and harassing opposing ball handlers. Justin Holiday is a veteran “3-D” wing who has played for several teams during his 10-year career, while Aaron Holiday, a 2018 first-round draft pick, has made a nice career of being the third or fourth guard on a club.
- LaMelo (Hornets) and Lonzo (Bulls) Ball
The Ball brothers have gotten a bad rap because of their father, Lavar, but they are incredibly talented. LaMelo is probably the better of the two due to his scoring prowess though they both are both quality rebounders, passers, and defenders. LaMelo (ankle) and Lonzo (back) have both dealt with ailments this season, with Melo making his debut on Nov. 11. However, Zo remains indefinitely out.
- Brook (Bucks) and Robin Lopez (Cavaliers)
Brook Lopez has carved out a 15-year NBA career due to his ability to score, protect the rim, and play in the pick-n-roll. While not a 20-point scorer, Lopez has developed into a respectable perimeter shooter. He is on-pace to have one of the best seasons since the mid-2010s this season. Conversely, Robin Lopez – who was never as good as his brother – has been on the past four years as a second/third team center.
- Marcus (Clippers) and Markieff (Nets) Morris
Marcus Morris, not surprisingly, is not the player that he once was, but he still knows how to put the ball in the hoop and is a quality shooter behind the arc. Markieff Morris hasn’t seen much time this year and has been an end-of-the-rotation for the last three years.
