What are Odd Numbers?

Odd Numbers Vs Even Numbers

●      Any number that cannot be written down or arranged in pairs can be defined as odd numbers whereas numbers that can be written down or arranged in pairs can be defined as even numbers.

  • The addition of two different odd numbers will always give you the resultant value as an even number. But the addition of two different even numbers will always produce an odd number. For example, 3 + 5 = 8 (for the additive property of odd numbers), 4 + 5 = 9 (the additive property of an even number) .
  • An even number is always divisible by 2 whereas an odd number is never divisible by 2.

●       Some examples of odd numbers are as follows: 1, 3, 7, 9, 11, 13, etc. Some examples of even numbers are 2, 4, 8, 10, 16, 20, and so on.

Type of Composite Numbers

As mentioned above, any number which includes more than two factors can be defined as a composite number. There are two types of composite numbers: the odd composite and even composite numbers. The two types of composite numbers are:

  1. Prime numbers are those numbers that consist of only two factors, i.e. 1 and the number itself. All the numbers which are odd and not prime can be considered as odd composite numbers. For example, 9, 15, 21, 27 are considered odd composite numbers.
  2. Similarly, all the even numbers which are not considered as prime can be defined as even composite numbers. Although, there is only one even prime number i.e. 2. Except the number ‘2’ there are no such prime numbers. Therefore, all even numbers except 2 are even composite numbers. For example, 4, 6, 8, 12, 14, and so on.
